The area has a rich industrial history with British Steel - now Tata Steel and BP Chemicals nearby. Industry in the area is being transformed by a 25 year regeneration programme, aiming to provide the best business facilities and technology in South Wales. This includes the development of the world's most technologically advanced power station by General Electric which supplies power to state of the art manufacturing units on the new Baglan Energy Park.
